Leadership should not require recognition or status. The apostle Peter is widely regarded as the leader and spokesman of the apostles. It was Peter in Acts 2 that spoke so boldly. Yet it was also Peter who, told Jesus no, denied Him 3 times, and almost left the ministry altogether. We all have feet of clay. My reason for mentioning Peter is not to point out his faults, because God truly used him mightily. But because God used Peter, we will look at his little known brother Andrew. Only mentioned 12 times in the NT Andrew is thought to be Peters younger brother. Due to the fact that 2 of the times Andrew appears in the NT is in the list of disciples, and he is always listed after Peter. Yet without Andrew we may never have even known his brother. John 1:35-42 tells us 2 amazing things about young Andrew. Verse 40 reveals the first thing. Andrew was a follower of John the Baptist. That is AMAZING to me. Peters little brother was a spiritual kid. Sensitive to the things of God. So much so, that upon hearing John speak of Jesus went and got Peter!(v41) Telling him “We have found the Messias”. In essence, leading his older brother to Jesus! I guess now would be a good time to tell you what Andrews name means in the Greek. It comes from the root adros related to andreia or man/of man or COURAGE. Literally MANLY. How do you like that?Only mentioned 12 times mostly in passing. No major events? Not even invited to the transfiguration? And yet without Andrew, 3 books of the NT may not get written, and God would’ve used someone else to teach us the many humbling lessons He used Peters life for. Let us pray for leadership that yearns more for God than the attention and accolades of men. DOTG @Leadership should not require recognition or status.
