Double tap to edit -The Templars Banking System- With the support of the Roman Catholic Church, the Knights Templar grew in size and status, though the Templars themselves took vows and swore an oath of poverty, the order was extremely wealthy, setting up a prosperous network of banks that gained enormous financial influence that allowed religious pilgrims to deposit assets in their home countries and withdraw funds in the Holy Land. The Templars created the first banking system, a system we still use today. During the Dark Ages, the journey from Jerusalem to Europe was dangerous, rogue agents were robbing the pilgrims of everything they had. So the Templars set simplifications along the way called commanderies and any one of these locations you can deposit your gold in exchange for a note, then take this note to another commandery and exchange it for gold, and for every transaction, the Templars would charge a small fee, it was an ingenious system used by thousands of people for hundreds of years. Overtime those little fees added up.
