(1119 AD) Hugh De Payens and the other eight knights agreed to the assignment and formed a secret fellowship. The Brothers of the East said they’ll find artifacts under the location of what used to be “King Solomon’s Temple”, the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The knights would have to act quickly, the holy land was a dangerous place. Jerusalem was taken by Christian crusaders on 1099 AD, but nobody knew how long they can hold it and there’s another problem. It wasn’t just the knights that knew about the artifacts, groups of Christians, Jews, and Muslims were searching too. So when the knights arrived on the holy land on 1120 AD, with the support of Baldwin I, the ruler of Jerusalem, they set up their headquarters where Solomon’s Temple once stood.
They officially became known as the “Poor Fellow Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon”, the Knights Templar.
