The ball drops. I am clutching a large knife against my own carotid as Hallejuah by Leanord Cohen plays at the New Years Eve party just outside my room. It\u2019s 2020 now. The decay amplifies. I am holding the hand of the man who practically raised me as he chokes on his own blood, his eyes slowly graying and fading out. It\u2019s 2020. I am aggressively tearing apart photos of the girl who raped me and left me out in the cold to freeze. 2020 ended. The descent quickens. I light a yearbook on fire after two of my best companions take their own life after I miss their calls. It\u2019s early 2021. The downward slope has now become a 45 degree angle. I am informed my best friend was brutally shot and murdered by political extremists outside the town we grew up in. It\u2019s early 2022. I smash into the ground. I still keep looking for something, someone to fill the void that the world has etched into my heart. Not someone to fill it, someone to help me pick up the pieces. I am broken, and I\u2019m going to make it. I\u2019ll make it for you all. I promise. Whether I have to travel across state lines all on my own with limited money or betray everything I\u2019ve ever heard from the church to be who I am, my resilience shows itself. I love you all, and I want you to spread the happiness I try my best to distribute. Hug your friends, and be the best version of you there is. If not for yourself, then for me.
