Today the Church honours St. Hildegard of Bingen. Doctor of the Church
Born in Germany, she became a Benedictine nun and Abbess. She received visions since the age of three, and was ordered to write them down. She composed short works on medicine and physiology, and sought advice from St. Bernard of Clairvaux.
\u201cThe soul is the greening life force of the flesh, for the body grows and prospers through her, just as the earth becomes fruitful when it is moistened. The soul humidifies the body so it does not dry out, just like the rain which soaks into the earth.\u201d
