Cecil J. Williams born November 26, 1937 raised in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He is best known as an American photographer, publisher, author and inventor best known for his photography documenting the civil rights movement in South Carolina beginning in the 1950s.

Cecil photographed the activities of the Briggs vs. Elliot case which was the first of the five desegregation cases that combined into the history changing Brown vs. Board of Education Supreme Court Case of 1954. That case proved the unconstitutionality of “Separate But Equal” public schools for whites and blacks.
-
After Thurgood Marshall won that case, Cecil encouraged people to challenge the new ruling. In this particular instance, he took it upon himself to drink from the “Whites Only” water fountain. His “F&@$ you! I’m Black, Human And Deserve Equal Rights Just Like You” game gave zero f&@ks about anyone’s racist ideologies!
