There’s something about crisp white sneakers, isn’t there? They make you feel brand new. Well, at least, they make us feel like we’ve bought a pair of new shoes and that’s always a good feeling.
The problem is keeping these sneakers super clean. No matter how careful you are, you’re always going to get white sneakers dirty. Even if you’re super careful and try really hard not to step on anything that’s too dirty or disgusting, white sneakers just attract dirt.
With white sneakers, it makes sense to always be on top of these things. So, every time you wear them, you kind of have to clean them before storing them away for the night. It sounds boring, but how else are you to have white sneakers if you don’t?
The worst part is, sometimes a piece of cloth and some water are not enough to do the trick. There’s some dirt that’s just too stubborn to remove with a simple clean. And, more often than not, when this happens, we usually give up on our white sneakers.
That’s when they go to the dark side. By that, I mean that our white sneakers suddenly turn into a marl grey kind of color. No longer are they crisp and white. These sneakers start to sport that apocalyptic sky grey color that’s not so glamorous.
Well, I’m here to tell you that your white sneakers can be saved from the dark side. Technically, I’m not the one saying it. I gave up on my white sneakers a while ago. But maybe there is hope yet.
It’s actually a lady on Twitter who’s telling you not to give up. We can call her the Martha Stewart for white shoes. With her before and after picture, this lady has proven that white sneakers can be saved and brought back to their original glory.
Her Twitter name is “Halloween Queen.” You’d think it’s a contradictory name for someone who brings white shoes back to life. But I guess that’s the point, no? She's a queen at bringing white shoes back to their original state.
Halloween Queen also had a pair of white sneakers that had turned apocalyptic sky grey. Specifically, a pair of converse sneaks. They don’t look so bad, do they? They're a little worn out - just what life tends to do to our white sneakers.
I don’t know about you. Personally, I feel like converse shoes look better with a bit of dirt. Or, well, as in this before picture, quite a lot of dirt. It shows they're well loved.
But anyway, this lady wanted to change he dirty sneakers. She wanted to make her converse sneakers look as good as new again. And she managed to do this with a couple of products found lying in the house.
So, according to Halloween Queen, you will need to “mix 1:1.5 of baking soda and detergent.” Sounds easy enough, and you probably already have these products around the house. You will need an old toothbrush to scrub those tiny grooves on your shoes. Make sure it’s an old one. Nobody wants to find the taste of detergent in their mouth when they go to wash their teeth.
Halloween Queen recommends scrubbing your sneakers well with the mixture. She also advises that we leave the shoes with the mix on it for a bit. Just enough time for the two ingredients to work their magic.
After you let them sit with the mixture for a while, rinse your shoes. Halloween Queen recommends putting them in the washer. Once out of the washer, sprinkle baby powder on them to help them to dry faster. Leave them to dry. If you do this, you will have your old sneakers looking brand new once again.
So, will you try this hack out? Or would you rather just buy another pair of sneakers instead? It’s definitely easier than waiting for your shoes to dry. Right?
