This is the season of many things. Great parties. Great Gifts. Crappy gifts. Dysfunctional family gatherings. You get it. But this is also the season where we look back on our year and figure out how we want to get better during the next year. Often, getting better for people means losing weight. Maybe it’s to improve their health or to feel more confident, but whatever the end goal, weight loss is a popular New Year’s resolution. The problem is, very few people actually manage to stick to their resolution.
That wasn’t the case for Lexi Reed and her husband Danny. These two made a New Year’s resolution back in 2016 to get healthy. The husband and wife didn’t have a personal trainer to help, they had no personal chefs, and no surgeries.
But these two didn’t need any of that, because they had the support and love of one another. And well, that was all they needed to find the motivation to lose weight and that’s exactly what they did. These two have completely transformed and they are literally half the persons they used to be.
Look at them. Lexi and Danny look like completely different people. Back then, Lexi weighed 485 pounds and Danny weighed 280 pounds. Eighteen months after starting their weight loss journey, these two lost almost 400 pounds together. The couple had a very special reason for wanting to get healthy.
“We wanted to be parents in the future and live a longer life together,” Lexi explained on Instagram, which is one pretty valid reason for wanting to lose weight. The couple led an unhealthy lifestyle before starting their weight loss journey. They ate about 8,000 calories per day and loved junk food.
In order to lose so much weight, they knew they needed to change their lifestyle and not simply go on a random diet, and that’s exactly what they did. The couple gave up junk food entirely. Instead, they started cooking meals at home, where they could control the ingredients and their portions.
They also started exercising every day. They would go to the gym together five and sometimes even six times a week. Even their dates changed. Lexi and Danny started to opt for more outdoor activities for fun rather than watching TV or heading to a restaurant.
Lexi documented their weight loss journey on Instagram to keep herself accountable, but also to motivate those in need of encouragement. She is an inspiration to many, and the best part is that she is so relatable. She’s just as busy as any of us, and she doesn’t have people to cook and prep for her. Nevertheless, Lexi managed to lose a ton of weight while dealing with everyday things, proving that anyone can do it.
We’ve covered the obvious. Good food and exercise are key to weight loss. But we know that a weight loss journey is more emotional than anything else. Lexi is very aware of this, but she has a strong philosophy that keeps her hungry for change rather than for unhealthy food.
“Get comfortable with being uncomfortable & always push yourself to step out of your comfort zone!” Lexi writes in one of her Instagram posts. Because yes, those workouts will make you cry sometimes and yes, sometimes you will feel like killing someone for chocolate, but that’s what change requires. It’s about being uncomfortable until you move on to the next stage. Rather than resisting that feeling of discomfort, embrace it, and see it as the vehicle that will get you to your end goal.
“You don’t have to live this way for the rest of your life Lexi,” was something she would often tell herself. And well, with the beginning of a new year coming, maybe you should convince yourself of this, too. If you’re uncomfortable, in pain or sick because of your weight, then start believing that you don’t need to live like this forever. You can live a better life than this. Just like Lexi is doing.
“Are you going to just keep talking about losing the weight or are you just going to do it? No more excuses. No more fear,” Lexi also wrote on Instagram. We’ve all done this, no? These angry inner monologues can become exhausting after a while. So maybe it’s time to get on with change rather than remaining stagnant for yet another year.
If it’s revenge you want, then use that motivation to achieve the change you want. “Prove them wrong & lets do this once and for all,” Lexi wrote on Instagram. It may not be your only motivation for weight loss, but it’s one hell of a way to keep you from eating that junk food.
So hit the gym, go for a walk, and take that Pilates class. “You are in charge of your future,” Lexi writes. “Show every single person that stares or doubts you what you’re made of.” And believe that you belong there. You’re at the start of your journey, you will get there if you persist.
It’s hard not to be inspired when you see these before and after pictures of Danny and Lexi. Remember that these two are just like you. They have jobs, stress, chores and responsibilities, but every day they choose to be healthy and to change for the better. The question is, are you ready to get better?
