Parents who really love their kids will tell you that being selfless becomes a natural habit once they have little ones to take care of. Most things will take a backseat to whatever the kids need. It’s not about losing yourself, rather, it’s about giving your kids the things they need to grow healthy, joyous and grateful human beings.
Many parents will tell you that this is so, but one father from the Philippines has become a symbol of this. This man proved that no matter how hard the sacrifice is, if it means the kids will feel safe and loved, then it’s worth it. This man is proving just how much parents can truly love their children.
Sarajan took the picture of the family after he noticed one very important thing. The two young girls were enjoying a meal of fried chicken and fries. The father, on the other hand, who looked very skinny, simply watched his girls eat.
Sarajan shared this photo on his Facebook page and quickly went viral. With the photo, Sarajan added a caption, writing, “I can’t contain my feelings when I saw them in Jollibee...This is a photo of a father’s love. A depiction of genuine selflessness.”
Other news outlets quickly sought to learn more about Arebuabo and his family life. ABS-CBN uncovered other facts about this family, including the fact that the three live “in a 4-square-meter shanty made of utilized plywood and corroded iron sheets.”
Now, the father is doing everything he can to raise his girls. Rose May is just 6 years old. Rose Ann is only 8. But despite the poverty and lack of means, everything this father does, he does it to make the girls’ lives better and easier.
ABS-CBN reports how, “regardless of his condition, the committed father struggles on to bring sustenance to the table and to keep his kids in school. Both Rose May and Rose Ann are learning at Jose Corazon De Jesus Elementary School.” When they are at school, Arebuabo works in his sari-sari store truck trying to earn as much money as he can.
You might think it strange, then, that a father with such limited means took his kids to a fast food joint to eat. But this wasn’t just any day. The father asked Rose May to pick any restaurant she wanted to celebrate her school graduation. It was a treat her father couldn’t say no to.
What Arebuabo is doing is admirable. Being a parent is difficult enough and when you add the difficult circumstances of poverty, it makes things even harder. But what Arebuabo is doing is proving “to his estranged spouse and the world that he can keep being a decent father to his kids regardless of being practically weakened by stroke.”
