2017 has seen one of the worst hurricane seasons in recorded history. The U.S. is still dealing with the effects of Hurricane Harvey. Shortly after, a massive category five hurricane, Irma, barreled into the southeastern U.S.
By the time Irma made it up to Orlando in central Florida, its winds died down and it was downgraded from a category five. This didn't mean it was no longer a threat. The force of the winds was still enough to blow the top of this lamp post clean off.
Part of the magic of the Magic Kingdom is the ambiance. Every leaf on every tree is usually taken into account to provide the exact experience they want you to have. It's strange seeing things out of place and out of their control.
You can see they hadn't finished the clean-up process when they reopened the park. A little damage wasn't going to keep them from putting smiles on faces. Disney does its best to always stay open. That's a not so well-guarded secret of Disney.
