So according to him a good life is a happy one. However it can be argued about what “happiness “ as such consists of. The philosopher Peter Singer argues that the preference for our species is similar to racism, therefore asking for a right of equal consideration for sentient-non human animals. Bernard Wiliams on the other hand believes Singer\u2018s analogy to stem from the misconception that group loyalty to a group (species or race) is negative. Rather it is not the loyality itself but the behaviour one exhibits toward other groups that would be problematic. Thus, favouring one\u2019s group only becomes problematic when the other groups rights are infringed upon. Here, he argues that this is always the case with racism however not with speciesism. An example for this could be that holding slaves is always wrong but holding chickens can be argued to be right. Or could it? What is your opinion?
