Reed has now been working as a stunt double for 22 years. He worked on the Fast and the Furious movies, Hercules and is also working on the upcoming film Jumanji. His first stunt gig with Johnson was for The Scorpion King in 2002.
For years the cousins have worked side by side for months on end. They have worked on more than a dozen movies together and they are super close. In May, Reed wrote a heartfelt message to his cuz for his birthday on Instagram.
Reed wrote, “I hope I look as good as you when I turn 45 in a year and a half. Thank you for being a great example not only to myself, but to all of the Polynesian youth, as well as every youth, woman and grown ass man from all over the world!”
For the movie Hercules, Tanoai had to reach his peak physical condition to keep up with "The Rock." I wonder if he also lives off of cod and egg whites? I'm thinking that he must have in order to stay in such good shape.
While he is one of the best, being a stunt double is extremely dangerous. Back in 2003, Reed shattered his ankle while completing a stunt where he had to tumble down a cliff in the movie The Rundown. The other stunt double in the scene landed on his head and knocked himself out.
Over the years, he has suffered many injuries, but it is clear from his Instagram that he loves what he does. He also has to be ready for anything "The Rock" signs up to do. And, if you've seen one of his movies, then that means something painful, extremely exciting and very dangerous.
Reed isn’t all Hollywood and film sets. He is also a family man. He adores his son Samson, a high school football player. Samson recently accepted an offer to play for the Virginia Cavaliers at the University of Virginia. Maybe he will also be the number 74 like his dad and his cousin.
His wife, Suzanne Reed, is also a successful stunt performer. She has worked on Piranha 3-D, Jack and Jill, Project X, Jurassic World and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. They really are making it a family business. Maybe Samson (middle) is next?
With Johnson's career currently in overdrive, it looks like Reed has a lot of work lined up for him. Johnson currently has 11 films in the works, and we are sure Reed will be a working on most of them right with him. The next film to watch out for is Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle on December 20, 2017.
